Position Prompt - 40 Hour RBT® Online Training

Position Prompt

Position Prompt is a type of instructional prompt where the correct stimulus or item is placed closer to the learner than the incorrect options. The goal is to help the learner respond correctly by making the correct choice more obvious through its proximity.

Example

A teacher is helping a child learn to identify colors using colored cards. The teacher places the red card closer to the child than the other cards (blue and yellow) and asks the child to “pick the red card.” By positioning the correct card closer, the child is more likely to choose it, increasing the likelihood of a correct response. Over time, the prompt can be faded as the child becomes more independent in identifying colors.
