Registered Behavior Technician®
Information
What is a RBT®?
The Registered Behavior TechnicianTM (RBT®) is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision< of a BCaBA, BCBA, or BCBA-D. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of services. The RBT does not design intervention or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the RBT Supervisor to determine which tasks an RBT may perform as a function of his or her training, experience, and competence. The BACB certificant supervising the RBT is responsible for the work performed by the RBT on the cases they are overseeing.
For more information see the BACB website
Who Can Become a RBT®?
Applicants must be 18 years of age, possess a minimum of a high school diploma or national equivalent, and complete a background check. I do not check these requirements prior to allowing someone to join the course, however they will be checked when you turn in your application to take the RBT® exam. If you have a question as to whether you meet these requirements you should email the BACB directly.

How do I become a RBT®?
The first step is completing the 40 hour training. This is what I am providing you.
The second step is completing the competency exam. I outline the steps you should take to find someone to complete your competency exam.
The next step is securing a supervisor. 5% of RBTs working hours need to be supervised. Typically the person who completes your competency exam will become your supervisor, or another BCBA or BCaBA in the company you are working for. But you need to identify the supervisor as part of your application for the exam. You cannot work as a RBT unless you are supervised.
Next you will complete the online RBT certification application. You will turn in the certificate of completion I provide you after completing the course and your competency exam, as well as other documentation. The BACB website explains this process.
Next the BACB will ask your supervision to confirm your age and that you have completed a background check.
Next you will pay the fees associated with the certification.
If the BACB accepts your application you will be able to register to take the RBT exam at a Pearson center.
Once you pass the exam you can register as a RBT.
What does it cost to become a RBT®?
My course cost $30.00. You may need to pay for your competency exam, but if you follow my directions in the FAQ to find someone it is likely that a company will cover this cost. The application fee is $50 and taking the RBT exam cost $45.
