Momentary Time Sampling (MTS) is an observation method used to record whether a specific behaviorBehavior refers to any activity or action that living o... occurs or does not occur at the precise moment an interval ends. This method involves observing the learner at the end of each interval and marking a “+” if the behavior is happening at that moment or a “−” if it is not.
Example
A teacher is observing a student’s on-task behavior during a 30-minute class period. The teacher sets a timer to go off every 5 minutes. When the timer beeps, the teacher looks up to see if the student is paying attention (on-task behavior) at that moment. If the student is on-task, the teacher records a “+”. If the student is off-task, the teacher records a “−”.
