Partial Physical Prompt - 40 Hour RBT® Online Training

Partial Physical Prompt

A Partial Physical Prompt is a form of assistance where the therapist or instructor provides some physical guidance to the learner, but not full support. The guidance is less intrusive compared to a full physical prompt and is typically given only for the parts of the task where the learner struggles. The goal is to allow the learner to complete as much of the task as possible independently while still receiving enough help to ensure success.

Example

A teacher is helping a student named John learn how to zip up his jacket. John can pull the zipper tab up once it’s connected but struggles with aligning the zipper at the bottom. The teacher uses a partial physical prompt by placing her hand on John’s wrist to help guide his hand in aligning the zipper but lets him pull the zipper up on his own. Over time, as John becomes more proficient, the teacher gradually reduces her assistance until he can complete the task independently.
