Social Skills

Social skills refer to the abilities that enable individuals to interact and communicate effectively with others in social settings. These skills involve understanding and using appropriate behaviors, such as making conversation, understanding social cues, and managing interpersonal relationships. Communication skills are the abilities that allow individuals to convey information, express thoughts, and understand messages from others, whether through verbal, non-verbal, written, or visual means.

In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other developmental therapies, social and communication skills are often targeted to help individuals better navigate social environments and improve overall quality of life.

Example

Greeting others, taking turns in conversation, making eye contact, understanding personal space, sharing, initiating conversations, maintaining conversations, asking for help, giving compliments, resolving conflicts.
